What is media blasting? Media blasting is the use of compressed air, abrasive media and a specialized machine that removes debris such as char from a surface. This method is a quick way to prepare a surface for refinishing or painting. We typically use this method during fire damages when we need to remove char off surfaces such as walls and framing.
There are several different types of media that can be used such as glass, garnet, or silicon carbide. Each of these mediums are for different uses. Glass bead media is the most common used. It is usually made from recycled glass and is used to remove things like paint and result off of surfaces. Garnet is also a popular media although it is not as abrasive as other medias it is very effective for areas covered in light debridement such as charring. Silicone Carbide is one of the toughest abrasive media you can get. It is fast cutting and can even be used for carving hard metals or stones.
